World Environment Day (WED) is an annual event celebrated on the 5th of June every year across the world. It was on this day in the year 1972 that the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment was formed. First celebrated in 1973, World Environment Day is a means to tackle environmental challenges that include climate change, global warming, disasters and conflicts, harmful substances, environmental governance, ecosystem management and resource efficiency.
It’s a day for people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and the future generations. The theme for this year’s World Environment Day celebrations is ‘Think.Eat.Save.’ This is an anti-food waste and food loss campaign that encourages you to reduce your foodprint. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), every year 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted. So think before you eat and help save our environment!
In recent times, eco-friendly weddings have also become a rage. It’s possible to have a lavish dream wedding and yet be a bit more considerate to mother Earth. All it takes is a little tweaking and rethinking of your invitations, decoration, catering and honeymoon.
