The World Health Organization (W.H.O) established World AIDS Day in 1988. Every year since then, December 1 is dedicated to the people who suffer from HIV & AIDS. The focus on this day is to spread awareness about HIV & AIDS and educate people about how it spreads and ways to go about treating it.
One of the biggest problems faced by HIV & AIDS affected patients is discrimination. On this day activists try to dispel some common myths and misconceptions about HIV & AIDS.
A few weeks before World AIDS Day many awareness & education camps are set up in villages and also in cities imparting knowledge about AIDS & HIV. The Red Ribbon worn on this day acts as a symbol for AIDS awareness. You too can show your support and raise awareness by sporting the Red Ribbon.
