Buddha Purnima falls on the full moon night in the month of Vaisakha commemorating the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha was born in 623 BC and received enlightenment in 588 BC. Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh and Bodh Gaya in Bihar become the centre of attention during this time as pilgrims from all over the world come here to attend the Buddha Purnima celebrations.
The day is marked with prayer meets, sermons, meditation and processions. Devotees offer incense and fruits to the statue of Buddha.
