Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the Christmas season and usually occurs on the fourth Thursday of November each year. This festival dates back to 1621 when the pilgrims celebrated the success of a good harvest with a three day long feast.
Today, families get together and express their gratitude to loved ones. They thank the Almighty for all they have been bestowed with and feast on the elaborate food made on this day. This is the most significant part of the Thanksgiving celebrations.
The celebrations generally last for four days and after the prayers are said everyone gets ready to eat a sumptuous traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The food usually includes turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and sweet potatoes. Watching football on this day is another part of the Thanksgiving tradition as everyone gets to bond and root for their favourite teams.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
