Survey: 56% Indians Prefer a Desi Honeymoon

With large number of marriages being solemnized every month,, The World’s Largest Matrimonial Service conducted a quick survey amongst its members to find out about their ideal honeymoon destination. As a result, 56% couples said they would prefer spending their honeymoon in India, while 44% said they would prefer going abroad. In India, Goa is the most preferred honeymoon destination (37.7% of people), while Switzerland remains the ideal honeymoon destination for respondents travelling abroad (53.7%) followed by Mauritius (14.1%) and Bangkok (8.7%). In India, some of the other favorite honeymoon destinations are the backwaters of Kerala and Srinagar with 18.4% respondents opting to travel to either the hills or God’s own country.

Though a significant portion (63.7%) of respondents preferred going to a hill station, Goa is considered a hot spot for honeymooners as 36.3% opted to go to a beach. Winter season is the ideal season for Honeymoon as 50.7% respondents feel so followed by Spring with 22.2% respondents opting to go for their honeymoon during this season. 73.4% respondents would like to have a romantic honeymoon and some of the preferred hill stations are Shimla, Ooty, Darjeeling and Mussoorie. 22.8% respondents would like to go for an adventurous honeymoon to Gulmarg for Skiing and 8.9% couples would prefer going to historical places like Taj Mahal, Khajuraho Temples and Sun Temple.

Commenting on the survey results, Gourav Rakshit, Business Head,, said, “While honeymooning abroad is on the rise, India, with its scenic beauty remains the preferred destination for honeymooning couples. In fact, today many NRIs opt to travel within India for their honeymoon. This poll is part of the constant research that conducts in an attempt to stay connected with preferences of its members.
