73.33% Women Avoid Specs on the First Meeting

Shaadi.com recently conducted a survey to understand what the Indian youth notice in the opposite gender when they meet for the first time. Surprisingly, 73.33% Indian women said that they wouldn’t wear their spectacles when they meet their potential partner for the first time as they believe that it will ruin their marriage prospects. On the other hand, 92% men said that they would wear spectacles during their first meeting. This indicates that in the age of women empowerment, women themselves are giving in to the stereotype of being liked or accepted on the basis of their appearance.

When women respondents were asked about what they noticed in men when they met for the first time. 65.56% women gave a thumbs down to ‘Bad Breath’ followed by ‘Body Odour’ (16.32% women) and ‘Colour of the Teeth’ (12.45% women). This suggests that hygiene is the number one criterion for Single Indian women. While women consider Bad Breath as the biggest turn-off, 63.33% Indian men gave a thumbs down to ‘Women who talk too much’ as their biggest turn-off. This was closely followed by ‘Body Odour’ (13.5%) and ‘Colour of the Teeth’ (13.2%). This suggests that men prefer women of few words.

Commenting on the poll results, Gourav Rakshit, Chief Operating Officer, Shaadi.com said, “The survey indicates that first impression is still very important when a boy and girl meet for the first time. Hence, it’s always important to put in that extra effort before first meetings. The poll is part of the constant research that Shaadi.com conducts in its attempt to gauge the preferences of its members.”
